antivirus. In the past, external antivirus software was our best bet to protect our system from threats. However, to use these external software’s we had to purchase a subscription for them. This subscription was an extra addon for our budget.

The new Windows Antivirus is maybe better but nothing is foolproof. However, Microsoft is introducing new features day by day into the Windows Defender so we can trust it more. There might be better software available that you can trust but Windows defender is your best bet when it comes to free Antivirus software.

Windows antivirus has many features and one of the features is the scan options feature. Usually, the antivirus will only do a quick scan. However, Windows Security allows scanning for threats using different scan options. You can configure the Windows antivirus to scan using these options.

Currently, The four scan options that are offered by the Microsoft Windows Defender are as follows

  • Quick Scan
  • Full Scan
  • Custom Scan
  • Windows Offline Scan

You can select any of these options to perform the desired scan on your computer. To configure or select scan options for scanning follow these steps

Open Start Menu or click on the search button on the bottom left corner of your screen.

Type Windows Security and click to open the app

Now select Virus and Threat Protection and click on Scan options under Quick Scan.

Here you will see the four scan options select your desired scan option and select Scan Now.

This is how you can easily configure the scan options for scanning. Normally, Windows security will perform a quick scan. However, you can choose these options to perform a thorough scan or a custom scan.

  • The quick scan option will perform a quick scan but it will not be as thorough.
  • The full scan option will perform a more thorough scan but it will take much more time.
  • With the custom scan option, you can choose a specific drive, file, or folder. You can use this option by right-clicking on that file as well and selecting Scan with Microsft Defender

The last option is Windows Defender offline scan can remove hard to remove files by scanning them offline. This option will log you out and perform an offline scan.
