Imagine sending a message to someone only to find out that you have made a mistake. Oops! Awful, right? Everyone’s experienced this at one point or another and wished they could do something about their text.

Well, the recent Apple iOS and iPadOS 16 updates have come to the rescue. The Apple iOS16 now has features that allow users to edit sent messages. This feature, however, demands that both users use an iPhone. This is because this feature only works on iMessage and not the normal SMS.

Another criterion is that both users have to be on the updated version of the Apple software. This feature only works on iOS 16, iPadOS 16, watchOS9, and macOSVentura. Users of earlier versions of apple softwares cannot view edited messages.

Also, users can only edit a message fifteen minutes after it has been sent. However, the recipient of the message can still see the original message by clicking on the blue “edited” icon. Knowing this, how do you go about editing a sent message on iMessage?

First, open the Messages app and select the conversation thread you want to  edit.

Next, long-press the message you want to edit. (Note: If you are not given options, it is past fifteen minutes.) Then, from the pop-up message, select Edit.

Now, make the changes you want and click the blue tick to send. If you change your mind about editing the message, click the cancel icon on the left.

That’s it! You’re done! Hope you find this information useful.

NB: You can tap the message to view the unedited version.
