How to Enable Disk Quotas in Windows Server 2012

Handling disk space on file servers can be a contest, exclusively as users like to store data and use network segments to store non-vocational files. To confirm that you can possess file servers running easily and offer sufficient space for business-critical processes.

Install FSRM

The file and design facilities server role is mounted by evasion in Windows Server 2012, but if you want to facilitate disk quotas, you’ll require admittance to the File Server Resource Manager tool (FSRM), which isn’t mounted as ordinary. If you haven’t previously completed so, mount FSRM:

Log in to Windows Server 2012 as a native administrator.

Right click on the PowerShell icon on the desktop Taskbar and select Run as Administrator from the menu.

In the PowerShell window, type add-windows feature –name fs-resource-manager –include management tools and press “Enter”.

Create a quota

To enhance a quota to a file, you can identify the file path and select from a list of pre-defined quota stencils:

Open Server Manager using the sign on the desktop Taskbar.

Select File Server Resource Manager from the menu in Server Manager.

In the left pane of File Server Resource Manager, enlarge Quota Managingand click Quotas.

In the Actions menu to the extreme right of FSRM, select Create Quota.

In the Create Quota dialog, click Browse to select the folder to which quota is to be applied. Then select Auto to apply the template and generate quotes on prevailing and new subfolders to make sure that folders added for new users are also comprised in quota policy.

Under Originate properties from quota design, select the quota design you’d like to apply and click Create.

Enter the email address where you want to send the notification.

You’ll see the material listed in summary box at the extremity of the Create Quota dialog. The 100MB Limit template has a hard limit, means that users cannot enhance more files to their home shares when 100MB is grasped.
