FIX: The File Is Corrupted and Cannot Be Opened in Excel/Word
“The file is corrupted and cannot be opened” doesn’t indicate your file is harmed. Most of the time, the files become unavailable due to a configuration error in the latest Microsoft Office applications.
Disable Protected View
Open any Word file and click on the File tab.
Select Options at the bottom-left corner.
Click Trust Center and choose Trust Center Settings.
Go to Protected View and uncheck all the boxes.
Click OK and restart your Word app.
Adjust Component Services
On your Windows Search bar, enter dcom.
Right-click Component Services and select Run as administrator.
Click the arrow on Component Services to expand and select Computers.
Right-click My Computer and select Properties.
Go to Default Properties tab.
Set the Default Authentification Level to Connect.
Make the Default Impersonation Level to Identify.
Click Apply and OK to save your changes.
