Fix the Windows Search Bar Not Showing or Working on Windows 11

The search bar in Windows is a useful tool. But if it doesn’t want to work, it can make things hard for you.

When the search bar in Windows doesn’t work right, it could be because of a number of things. This guide will show you different ways how to fix this error.

Check If the Windows Search Bar Is Enabled

Press Win + I to open Settings.

Click on Personalization and select Taskbar.

Click on Taskbar items to expand it.

Ensure that Search is enabled.

Restart Your PC

As a general rule, restarting your computer can solve a surprising number of issues. So, before you do anything else in this article, try restarting your computer to see if that helps.

Update Your Windows to the Latest Version

If it’s been a long time since you updated your PC, now might be a good time. Your Windows search bar might work again after you update Windows.

Press Win + I to open Settings.

Go to Windows update and click Check for updates.

If new updates are available, click on the Install button and wait until it finishes.

Restart Windows Search Bar Process

Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.

Go to Details and look for SearchHost.exe.

Right-click on it and select End task.

Rebuild the Windows Search Index

Press Win + I to open Settings.

Go to Privacy & security and select Searching Windows.

Look for Advanced indexing options and click on it.

Click on the Advanced button when a new window opens.

In the Index Settings tab, click on Rebuild.

Click OK to save your changes.

Use the Windows Search Troubleshooter

Press Win + I to open Settings.

Go to Systems and select Troubleshoot.

Click on Other troubleshooters.

Look for Search and Indexing and click on the Run button beside it.

Reset Windows

Press Win + I to open Settings.

Go to Systems and select Recovery.

Click Reset PC.

Follow any on-screen instructions.
