Fix Yellow Triangle with Exclamation Point in Word or Excel

In Word, a yellow triangle with an exclamation point indicates that there is an issue with your Office account. It affects all versions of Microsoft Office on all devices.

Check that you are connected to the internet before you attempt any of the fixes mentioned in this guide.

Sign-in. It’s possible that the yellow triangle with the exclamation point in Word is indicating that you haven’t logged into your account yet.

Fill up the required details for your Office account and sign in using either the web client or the PC client that you have downloaded and installed.

Switch account

Open Microsoft Word, click on the File tab and select Account on the lower left.

Select Switch Account then log in using the same credentials that you used before to sign in.

Sign out and sign back in

Open Microsoft Word, click on the File tab and select Account on the lower left.

Select the Sign out button.

Restart Microsoft Word and go to File, click on Account and sign back in with your login details.

Ask assistance from Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant

Download/Open Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant. Follow on-screen instructions if this is your first time downloading the assistant.

Select Office and click on Next.

Look for the problem with a description close to the yellow triangle with an exclamation point in Word and click Next.

Try the recommended solutions or follow the recommendations if none are found.
