How to Always Start Microsoft Edge inPrivate Browsing Mode – Windows 10

InPrivate browsing mode or incognito mode is a feature of most of the browsers that we use. The feature allows us to browse the internet without saving the session details.

When you surf the internet in incognito mode/InPrivate browsing mode it will not save your browsing history, cookies, or remember the logins that you saved. However, this feature is not full-proof it only provides privacy for you and the users using that computer. However, your browsing can still be tracked by your ISPs, Keyloggers, parental controls, etc.

It does not make you anonymous online. Browsers normally store a lot of your information while you browse e.g. cookies, login Infos, complete browsing history. You can open a browser in private browsing to avoid storing this information.

You can easily go into private browsing manually after opening the browser but if you want to open your browser in private browsing mode each time you can set them up to open up in private browsing by default. Microsft edge until recently didn’t offer this feature to be activated, unlike other browsers. However, with the new Microsoft edge based on Chromium, you can set up your Edge to open in InPrivate browsing mode.

Start Microsoft Edge in Private Browsing Mode

First, download the latest Chromium version of Edge and install it to activate this feature. Go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge to download the browser. If you have already installed the browser skip this step.

Note: You will not be able to activate this feature using an embedded Microsoft edge

Now After installation completes open up Microsoft Edge and right-clicks on the icon in the taskbar

Right-click on Microsoft Edge and click properties. You can also do this by using the desktop icon of edge by right-clicking on and selecting properties.

In the target box in the shortcut tab write this command line at the end of target -inprivate and click on Apply and OK.

Now Microsft Edge will always open up in InPrivate Browsing mode when you open it through this shortcut. Whether it is on your desktop or pinned on the taskbar.

However, make sure that you have pinned the browser to your taskbar first before adding this option. Otherwise use the desktop shortcut and add this command line in properties of that shortcut.

You can always remove this command line to open up your browser normally. Open your browser using the shortcut you put the command line in it will open it in private mode by default.

If you just want to open edge in private window manually just right click on the pinned icon of Microsoft edge on your taskbar and click New InPrivate Window.
