How to Compress file size in Windows using WinRAR

In this tutorial, I will explain how to compress your files via WinRAR, to be able to upload or email it to someone due to the size or internet bandwidth.

I will write simple steps to compress your files to the minimum size. Normally the compression makes the file size to one-fourth of the original size.

For example, if you compress a file having a size of 1 GB, it will shrink down to 200 MB in the RAR file. It is not necessary to think of how much the archive would be after compressing a file or folder. However, in some cases, you would have to make it not larger than a specific size.

Step 1: First of all you will need to download and install WINRAR compression tool if you already have the WinRAR installed then please proceed to Step 3.

Step 2: Install WinRAR from the exe file you have downloaded in Step 1.

Step 3: Select & Right Click on the files you want to compress and click select “Add to archive” as in the screenshot.

Step 4: Choose where you want to save the compressed file and then click ok.

Step 5: The process will start and it will take a while depending on your files size so be patient.

Step 6: After the process is done a RAR file will be created having the minimum size. Now, to uncompressed it later you will do the following, Right click on the file and select Extract here. The files will be extracted but with the maximum size again.

It’s worthy of mention that you can still use various types of files after compressing them. Such as images, videos, and documents. This, of course, won’t work for things like video game files or anything like that.
