How to Create and Update Table of Figures in MS Word 2016
Microsoft Word enables you to add List of Figures automatically. This feature allows you to bypass the cumbersome task of making a list of figures manually. All you have to do is to give a proper caption to all of your figures.
In this article, I will go through how we can create and update a table of figures in Microsoft Word.
Click on the start menu and start typing MS Word to open MS Word.
Click Open on the left-hand side of the home page of MS Word and open the Word format file to add List of Figures.
It should be noticed that the added document must contain the figures with captions.
To add proper captions, select an image and click on References and select the Insert Caption option.
Write a suitable caption in the Caption window and click ok to add a caption. Follow the same procedure to add captions for all the images present in your document.
Now click on your document where you want to add Table of Figures. Navigate to References option again at the top ribbon of MS Word and click on Insert Table of Figures.
A new window of Table of Figures will open, click on Table of Figures option there.
You can select different formats in the General options tab.
If you want to modify the Table of Figures, click on Modify and make fonts and other adjustments. Click OK to save the settings and add the Table of Figures to your document.
Table of figures is added to your document with the details of figures with the exact page number of the document.
You can update the table of figures at any time. Insert a new picture to your document and give a proper caption.
Select the added Table of Figures and navigate to References. Click on Update Table to accommodate changes to your document.
An update Table of Figures dialog will appear. Select Update entire table and click OK to save the changes.
Your added Table of Figures will be updated automatically.
