RECOMMENDED: Transfer Windows and Installed Data to Another Hard Drive

If you recently upgraded to Windows 11 and suddenly experience slow internet, there are a couple of factors that might cause this.

It may be your provider or the connection, or it could be something closer to home, such as wrong PC settings. Listed below are various potential solutions for sluggish internet on Windows 11.

Disconnect Your VPN

VPN services such as Private Internet Access (PIA) assist you in safeguarding your data and privacy. However, it routes your data across many servers, which might cause your internet connection to lag. This is particularly problematic if it is configured to execute upon startup.

While the procedure for disabling or removing your VPN software differs, you want to guarantee that it is not linked if your surfing speeds are excessively poor.

Disconnect and Reconnect from Network

Click the Wi-Fi icon in the taskbar.

Click the arrow button to open Manage Wi-Fi connections.

Find the network your device is connected to and click the Disconnect button.

After disconnecting, reconnect to the network by clicking on the Connect button.

Set Lower Bandwidth for Windows Updates

Open Settings and go to Windows Update.

Click on Advanced options.

Navigate to Additional options and select Delivery Optimization.

Turn off Allow downloads from other PCs

Click on Advanced options.

Select Absolute bandwidth and check both boxes to restrict the amount of bandwidth used for updating.

Disable Bandwidth Consuming Processes

On your keyboard, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to launch Task Manager.

Go to the Performance tab and select Open Resource Monitor.

Select the Network tab.

Right-click on the processes that use a lot of bandwidth and click End process.

Run the Internet Connections Troubleshooter

Go to Settings and go to System.

Click Troubleshot.

Under the Options section, click on Other troubleshooters.

Click Run  next to Internet Connections.

Select Troubleshoot my connection and follow any on-screen instructions.
