Transfer your Data From an Old Computer to a New One

Windows Easy Transfer is a tool built-in Windows 7 to easily transfer / Migrate your data from an old computer to a new one. This step-by-step tutorial will help you move your documents, music, pictures, e-mails, and Internet favorites to a new computer even if running Windows XP.

Note: Ill be using an external Drive for this tutorial.

Video Tutorial:

On the old computer:

1. Plug in your external drive to the old computer and click the Start, In the search box, type “Windows Easy Transfer” press enter.

2. The Windows Easy Transfer wizard will pop up letting you know what you transfer. click Next.

3. From the wizard select An external hard disk or USB flash drive.

4. Select this is my old computer.

5. Windows Easy Transfer wizard will scan your computer for all your data. Once done. You can customize you transfer by selecting customize to prevent unwanted files to be transferred. Next.

6. You can password protect your transfer if you like, if not just leave the password field blank and click on Save.

7. Now Browse for the external drive where you want to save the transfer and click save to start backing up to the drive.

8. Once completed close the wizard, remove the drive from the old computer and place it on the new computer.

On the new computer:

1. Search for “Windows Easy Transfer” and select it.

2. The Windows Easy Transfer wizard will pop up letting you know what you transfer. click Next.

3. From the wizard select An external hard disk or USB flash drive.

4. Select this is my new computer.

5. Browse to select the Windows Easy Transfer file located on the external drive.

6. You can also customize the transfer like we did previously when doing the backup. Once done click on transfer to bring all your files from the old computer to the new one.
