Set a Default Homepage in Internet Explorer using GPO

Many organizations want to set the client browser homepage in a way that whenever internet explorer open on their machine to display a particular website.

We can also restrict users to change the homepage so In this article, we will learn that how we can set the same homepage for all the users in the same organization.

This can be done using the group policy so open up the “active directory users and computer” and “Group Policy Management” one by one in Windows Server 2012 R2.

First of all, we should select or create the OU in Active directory where we want to install this group policy. In this case, I have created OU named “Finance Users” and there are three users in this OU.

Now open the group policy management console and browse to your specific OU as in this case, it is “Finance Users”.

Right-click on it and select the option “create a new GPO in this domain and link it here”

Give it a name in this I am naming it as “IE homePage”

Press Ok and now our newly created group policy is listed under our “Finance Users” OU.

Right click on “IE homepage” to select “Edit” as it will open up GPO editor.

Under user configuration expand “Policies” and then click on “Administrative Templates” to expand it as well.

Now expand “Windows Components” and search for internet explorer.

Click on internet explorer and look for “Disable changing home page settings”.

Double click on it select enable option to enable the group policy and enter the required URL under Home Page as I want to set my homepage to

Press apply and now log in to any of client computer using the set of credentials which are in “Finance Users”.

Open internet explorer and you can see the homepage has been changed. A user cannot change the homepage since option is disabled.
