How to Set Your Default Email App – Windows 11

If you select an email link in Windows 11 and the incorrect email client pops up, you can change the default email app efficiently. All it requires is a brief trip to Windows Settings. Here’s how to do it.

To set your default email app in Windows 11, all you need is to click on the Windows Start Menu and search for settings and open the results, or you can also use keyboard shortcuts Windows+i to launch Windows settings quickly. Once the Windows Settings opens, select “Apps.”

Now click the “Default Apps” in the sidebar to the left, and click the mail icon.

Now, choose the app from the dropdown menu you’d like to use as your default. Once you have chosen your favorite default email app, then click “Ok.”

If you need to configure the exact email client to open EML files (email files preserved as text files to your device), you can also click the “.EML” link on the Default Apps page and select the email app from the list. When you’re done, close Settings.

Happy emailing!
