How to Open File Location on Windows 11

Windows has a feature called “Open a file location” that lets you find the exact path of an app or file. Even though you can open a file location by right-clicking, Windows 11’s new features have made things a bit more complicated.

There are a few ways to find the location of a file, and this guide shows you 3 quick ways to do so.

Press your Windows key and type the name of the file or app on the Search bar.

Right-click on the file or app if the results appear and select Open file location.

Open file location through File Explorer

Press Win + E to open File Explorer.

Click on This PC and search for the name of the app or file

Right-click on the app or file in the list of results and choose Open file location.

You may also do this in the Quick access menu.

Use Command Prompt

Press the Win + R to launch the Run dialog.

Type cmd and press Enter.

Type dir name of your file /s and hit Enter. Remember to change the name of your file.

Task Manager

Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.

Under the Processes tab, look for the app and right-click on it and select Open file location.
