Icons are used to identify the application you want to run in your system. All software developers place the logo of their brand in the icon file of the software. To create an empty icon file, you will have to work on a simple image editor tool for creating an empty image.

In this article, I am going to tell you the step by step process of creating an empty icon file in Windows 10. Trail the following procedure for this task.

Download and install Adobe Photoshop. Open Adobe Photoshop. Create a new workspace to make an image.

Set the dimensions of the image and choose the white background of the image. Click on create to build an image in the workspace of Photoshop.

In the main workspace window, double click on the Layer 1 to open its properties.

A Layer Style window will open. Change the values of Opacity and Fill Opacity options to zero.

A transparent image will be created.

Click on File at the top left of the main window of Adobe Photoshop. Navigate to Export and click on Save for the Web.

Photoshop displays a new window on your screen. Change the image format to PNG-24 and check the Transparency option. Save the image in your system.

A transparent empty image is present in the selected system directory. It looks like a black color square, but it is the empty transparent image.

Now, convert the empty transparent image to an icon. Now go to icoconvert.com. Choose the empty image file from your system and click on the Upload button to upload the image in this online image converter.

Scroll down to step 4 on the icoconvert website and select the desired icon size. Click on the Convert ICO button below.

After a few seconds, your empty icon file will be ready to download. Save the file in your PC by clicking on Download your icon(s).

Right-click on any installed application icon and open its Properties.

In the App properties window, navigate to Shortcut and click on the Change Icon button below.

A change icon window will appear on your screen. Browse for the empty transparent icon file in your system directories and Apply the changes in the app properties window.

An empty icon file will be created. The name of the software will remain the same, and the created empty icon will replace its built-in icon.
