How to Disable Google Meet in Gmail

Google has introduced the Google Meet option which has replaced the Google Hangouts and Google Chat options. With Google Meet one can do video conferencing with up to 100 people for up to 60 minutes. Thus, Google is promoting its new feature Google Meet in the Gmail by making this option available in the sidebar of the Gmail.

However, this option is often not needed and consumes ample space of the Gmail sidebar. Consequently, many people usually disable the Google Meet option because they find it useless and space-occupying. This article describes the steps to disable the Google Meet option in Gmail.

Open your Gmail account in a tab of Google Chrome. Click on the ‘Settings’ icon visible on the right of the search bar of the Gmail.

Click on the ‘See all settings’ option available in the ‘Quick Settings’ menu.

A window of settings will be opened. Click on the ‘Chat and Meet’ option available on the extreme right of all options under the settings ribbon.

A window will be opened to change the settings of chat and meet. Click on the ‘Chat off’ radio button present next to the Chat label. Click on the ‘Hide the Meet section in the main menu’ radio button present next to the Meet label.

Hit the ‘Save Changes’ button to save the changes and disable the Google Meet in the Gmail.
