You might have noticed that when you double-click a folder in the file explorer, it opens in the same window if you use a Windows device. However, you can modify these settings and open the folder in a new window through the context menu; but what if you consistently need to open folders in a separate Window?

Windows 11 lets you modify the folder options. On Windows 11, you can specify the File Explorer to open every folder in a new window; and that’s too without employing any extra apps or third-party file explorer. Let’s get started.

Open Each Folder in a New Window on Windows 11

If you like to open a folder in a new window, you need to use the Context menu shortcut. To do so, launch the File Explorer on your Windows 11, right-click the folder you like to open in a separate window and select the “Open in new window” option.

That’s it! This will open your chosen folder in a separate window.

There’s a more comfortable way to open folders in a distinct window on Windows 11. To do so, all you need is to open the File Explorer, press and hold the Ctrl button, and double-click the folder you want to open in a new window.

That’s it! This will open your chosen folder in a separate window.

If you consistently like to open folders in a new window, you need to make some modifications to the Folder settings. Here’s what you need to do.

First, get to the File Explorer Options, and switch to the General tab. Select “Open each folder in its own window” under the “Browse folders” section. Click “Apply” and then “Ok” to save the changes.

When you are done, now the next time you double-click on a folder, it will open in a new window.
