Before now, the iPhone widgets only stay on the home screen. But, so many new changes have come since the launch of the iOS 16 feature. For instance, you can now add and access widgets through your home screen.

This is a step in the right direction for iPhone users who value convenience.

Your lock screen widget can contain specific apps on your phone like a calendar, battery, alarm, and reminders. It can also contain live updates like weather apps and apps that update you with live sports scores.

If you haven’t used widgets before, now may be a perfect time to try them out. However, if you are a fan of widgets, you’d love this new feature. Let’s get into how to add these widgets, shall we?

Setting Up The Lock Screen Widget On Your iPhone

There are several ways to customize your lock screen with the widget quickly. The long process involves going through your settings. But this is the easiest way to add it.

First, press the side button of your iPhone to lock your device.

Then, double tap your Lock Screen and long press on your lock screen.

Under the minimized lock screen, a “customize” button appears below – tap it.

Next, the minimized versions of the Lock Screen and Home Screen will appear. Tap the Lock Screen and select the “Add Widget” box.

Now, select your preferred widget and choose the size and shape you prefer – the square or rectangle.

To add another widget, tap the cancel icon at the top right corner of the menu, then choose and repeat the process.

Once this is done, tap the cancel icon at the top right corner. Then, tap Done.

Viola! You’re good to go.

Adding Lock Screen Widgets Through Your Settings – iOS 16

Alternatively, you can add the widgets through your settings app. Here’s how

First, launch the settings app on your device – iPhone or iPad. Then, scroll and tap Wallpaper.

Next, tap on the current Lock Screen to make your edits – you can also change your wallpaper here. Or, tap Customize on the Lock screen

Next, select the “Add Widget” box below the time – a pop-up “Add Widget” menu will appear. You can scroll down to see more widget options too.

Now, select your preferred widget and choose the size and shape you prefer – the square or rectangle.

To add another widget, tap the cancel icon at the top right corner of the menu, then choose and repeat the process.

Once this is done, tap the cancel icon at the top right corner. Then, tap Done.

That’s it!
